Aedict Is Alive
It has been quiet here for a few years, so let me say it clearly: Aedict is alive and being worked on. The Android app has just received a round of upgrades and fixes, and Aedict Online and the aedict.eu web page are next.
Aedict 3.52.0
The biggest news first: Aedict can be installed from Google Play on Android 15 and newer again. Google Play hides apps that don’t target a recent enough Android version, so if you searched for Aedict on a new phone recently and couldn’t find it, please try again. Aedict on Google Play.
What else is new in 3.52.0:
- Support for Android 16
- The predictive back gesture
- The Settings and Welcome screens no longer draw under the status bar
- The word of the day changes daily again; it was stuck since Android 8
- Dictionary download works on Android 7.0 again
- Pending in-app purchases are handled correctly
- Better TalkBack support for icon buttons
Aedict now requires Android 7.0 or newer. Only a handful of users were still on Android 5 and 6; if you’re one of them, your current Aedict keeps working, it just won’t receive updates.
The dictionaries keep being updated every month, as before.
Aedict Online and aedict.eu
Aedict Online hasn’t been updated since 2020 and runs on a pretty old technology stack. It’s going to be modernized: rewritten on top of current libraries and moved to a new server. The aedict.eu web page will get a refresh as part of the move.
This takes a while, and there’s no date yet. What matters to you, though, stays the same:
- Your Aedict Online account carries over, and with it the commercial dictionaries such as Daijirin that you’ve activated.
- Synchronization keeps working throughout; your notepad, SRS and tags stay safe.
- Dictionary downloads keep working, and so does the “Aedict Online” search from within the app.
Tell me which features you use
Aedict Online has accumulated quite a few features over the years, and I’d like to only port
those which people actually use. Please head over to
